Sabine Bauer – Managing Director, Head of EMEA Insurance Ratings at Fitch Ratings
Sabine Bauer is Managing Director and Head of EMEA Insurance Ratings at Fitch Ratings, based in Stockholm, Sweden. With more than two decades of experience in the financial services and credit analysis sector, she currently leads the assessment of insurance companies across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Her career at Fitch Ratings spans over 14 years. Before assuming her current leadership role in September 2024, she served as Criteria Officer, responsible for developing and maintaining rating methodologies, and prior to that as Group Credit Officer for EMEA Financial Institutions, overseeing credit policy and risk assessment strategies.
Earlier in her career, Bauer held senior analytical roles at Fitch covering financial institutions across various regions, including Germany, Slovenia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Macao, and Mongolia. She also worked at S&P Global Ratings as a lead analyst for German and Swiss banks, and at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, London, and New York as Assistant Vice President for credit risk management, focusing on European financial institutions.
She frequently appears in financial media such as Bloomberg and CNBC, where she has commented on issues affecting the banking and insurance sectors in Hong Kong, Japan, and across the APAC region.
Bauer holds two master’s degrees: one from the University of Stuttgart in Business Administration with additional specialization in Accounting, Finance, and Automotive Engineering, and another from Heriot-Watt University in Finance, Accounting, and Tax.
