Aon launches Underwriting Analytics for insurers and reinsurers

Aon has launched Underwriting Analytics, a new capability within its Risk Analytics Platform for insurers and reinsurers. The tool is designed to assess how prospective business would affect existing portfolios before underwriting capacity is committed.

The solution combines location-level information with portfolio and accumulation analysis. Insurers can use it to evaluate how individual risks interact with existing exposures and whether new business fits within established underwriting limits.

Aon is introducing the capability ahead of the reinsurance renewal season. The company said the platform is intended to connect underwriting decisions more closely with portfolio management, reinsurance purchasing and capital allocation.

Underwriting Analytics uses Aon’s Global Hazard Scores, supported by its Impact Forecasting catastrophe modeling team. These scores provide a consistent global view of hazard exposure and help identify areas where insured values are concentrated.

The platform also evaluates individual locations using information such as building characteristics and susceptibility to specific hazards. That information can be reviewed alongside existing portfolio exposures when an insurer is considering a new policy.

Analysis is available at location, policy and portfolio level. Insurers can therefore examine individual submissions while also measuring how additional business changes broader accumulation patterns.

George Attard, Chief Strategy Officer and Global Head of Analytics for Reinsurance at Aon, said insurers need to assess whether additional premium fits their individual risk appetite. He said the tool is intended to show how a prospective risk affects accumulations and portfolio diversification before a decision is made.

Underwriting Analytics combines portfolio context with accumulation information and location-level risk data. Aon said the resulting analysis supports underwriting, pricing and decisions about where capacity should be deployed.

The capability sits within Aon’s Risk Analytics Platform, which operates as a model-agnostic environment. The platform brings together catastrophe exposure data, third-party vendor models and analytics developed by Aon.

Underwriting Analytics will operate alongside Aon’s Event Analytics within the same platform. Clients can access both capabilities through a single system rather than using separate analytical environments.

Aon also plans to add further capabilities to the Risk Analytics Platform. Future development will include tools focused on digital infrastructure exposures and other areas where insurers need more detailed portfolio information.
