AXA XL Re, the property & casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of AXA, operating as a major global insurance and reinsurance group, announced senior promotions within its reinsurance division, effective 1 January 2026, appointing Julian Longbottom as global head of Marine & Energy, Reinsurance, and Jamie Pedro as head of Specialty, Reinsurance, Bermuda.
In his new role, Julian Longbottom assumes responsibility for AXA XL Reinsurance’s Marine & Energy business worldwide.
His remit spans strategy execution, portfolio growth, and client solutions across regions. Longbottom brings more than a decade of experience at AXA XL, including work expanding the company’s reinsurance footprint in Japan and shaping longer-term strategic development across specialty lines.
Jamie Pedro takes on leadership of Specialty Reinsurance in Bermuda, with responsibility for Whole Account reinsurance risks on a global basis.
He will work closely with Longbottom on the management of Bermuda-based Marine & Energy reinsurance while continuing to support core clients within AXA XL’s Property reinsurance portfolio.
Pedro brings 15 years of experience from the company’s Bermuda Property reinsurance operations, where he has focused on complex risk structures and portfolio oversight.
Bertrand Romagne, chief executive officer of reinsurance international at AXA XL, said Longbottom has built deep sector knowledge in Marine & Energy and has played a central role in driving growth and delivering tailored solutions for clients over more than ten years.
Mark Twite, chief executive officer of reinsurance Bermuda at AXA XL, said Pedro has consistently shown strong analytical capability and operational discipline, contributing to team performance and reinforcing the group’s market position.
He said the appointments reflect the depth of leadership talent within AXA XL Reinsurance and support its ongoing strategic priorities across global specialty markets.
