Coalition secured a $30 mn equity investment from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance

Coalition, a San Francisco-based cyber insurance provider focused on preventing digital risks, has secured a $30 mn equity investment from Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co, a key member of the MS&AD Insurance Group, Japan’s largest non-life insurer.

The partnership aims to expand Coalition’s insurance solutions to more businesses worldwide. MSI also gains access to new markets and strengthens its position as a Coalition shareholder.

Coalition stands out as a trusted partner to policyholders, security clients, and the broader insurance industry. Both companies prioritize innovation in cyber insurance, and we are excited to deepen our long-term relationship.

Tomoyuki Motoyama, Chief Digitalisation Officer at MS&AD

Joshua Motta, Coalition’s cofounder and CEO, welcomed the partnership. “MS&AD is one of the most respected insurers globally, and we are excited to strengthen our collaboration. Their support enables us to scale our model and reinforce our leadership in cyber insurance. Together, we will provide businesses of all sizes with the protection they need in an increasingly digital world.”

The investment builds on an existing partnership, which includes a multi-year capacity agreement in Australia. The collaboration also supports cybersecurity solutions for small and midsize businesses in Japan through Coalition’s cyber risk management platform, Coalition Control.

Coalition has experienced significant funding milestones in recent years:

These investments have supported Coalition’s rapid growth, international expansion, and the broadening of its services to help organizations manage digital risk. As of July 2022, Coalition served over 160,000 customers with active cyber insurance and cybersecurity capabilities.
