DOXA launches DOXA Re for specialty property quota share reinsurance
  • DOXA has launched DOXA Re, a specialty property reinsurance managing general underwriter focused on quota share and related proportional reinsurance solutions.
  • James Femia, who has 22 years of property reinsurance underwriting and leadership experience, has been appointed president of DOXA Re.
  • The new MGU will combine delegated underwriting authority, portfolio diversification, analytics and DOXA’s operational infrastructure to serve insurers, hybrid carriers and MGAs.

DOXA has established DOXA Re, a specialty property reinsurance managing general underwriter (MGU) offering quota share and related proportional reinsurance solutions to traditional insurers, hybrid carriers and managing general agents (MGAs).

The new business is intended to address demand for specialised underwriting expertise as the expansion of MGA and hybrid-carrier programs creates more complex property reinsurance placements.

DOXA said access to reinsurers with the necessary underwriting capabilities and willingness to provide capacity remains limited in parts of the market.

DOXA Re addresses a growing need for specialty underwriting expertise in the quota share reinsurance marketplace. As MGA and hybrid-carrier programs expand, property placements are becoming more complex, yet access to reinsurers with both the expertise and appetite to participate remains limited.

Joe Guerrero, DOXA’s chief product and underwriting officer

“DOXA Re brings together experienced underwriting, analytics and DOXA’s operational resources to move quickly and thoughtfully to meet the needs of carriers and MGAs.”

James Femia appointed president of DOXA Re

James Femia has joined DOXA as president of DOXA Re, bringing 22 years of experience in property reinsurance underwriting and leadership.

During his career, Femia has developed and managed diversified quota share portfolios and established relationships with reinsurance brokers, cedents, MGAs and capital markets participants.

Under his leadership, DOXA Re plans to establish a diversified portfolio spanning different insurance products, client segments, geographic markets and risk classes.

The MGU will combine delegated underwriting authority with processes designed to support timely underwriting reviews and communication with clients and brokers throughout the placement process, from initial assessment to binding.

DOXA’s existing operational infrastructure will support the business as it recruits additional underwriting and analytics professionals.

The company said its underwriting approach will emphasise disciplined risk selection, rigorous pricing and treaty structures designed around the characteristics of individual risks and portfolios.

DOXA Re targets long-term quota share reinsurance partnerships

Femia described the new business’s underwriting philosophy as “Working Property”, an approach centred on deploying capital alongside cedents and maintaining cooperation among brokers, reinsurers and capacity providers.

Our approach reflects what I call ‘Working Property’: putting capital to work alongside cedents and collaborating with brokers and capacity providers so everyone at the table shares the success.

James Femia

“We want to be the first call because we know how to navigate risk, capitalize on opportunity and do what we say we will do. That is how we build lasting partnerships and a sustainable business.”

DOXA Re will operate within DOXA’s broader specialty insurance platform, which acquires and develops businesses serving niche insurance markets. Its portfolio includes insurance program administrators, underwriting and program distribution companies, MGAs, MGUs, brokers and direct-to-consumer operators.
