Emergence acquires Blue Zebra cyber insurance renewal rights

Cyber insurance underwriting specialist Emergence Insurance has acquired the renewal rights to Blue Zebra’s cyber insurance portfolio, expanding its position in the Australian cyber market.

Under the agreement, cyber policies written by Blue Zebra from July 1 will receive renewal terms, or replacement policies, from Emergence. Brokers will begin receiving renewal notices this month as the portfolio moves across.

Policyholders will gain access to Emergence’s cyber insurance offering, including its Smarter Cyber Services. The package includes one-hour resilience sessions with cyber specialists, threat monitoring and resources intended to help businesses reduce cyber risk.

Emergence also provides 24/7 incident response support, giving insureds access to specialists who assist with recovery following a cyber event. The insurer said the acquisition extends its specialist cyber proposition while maintaining continuity for Blue Zebra customers.

Blue Zebra has built a solid cyber portfolio, underpinned by a small specialist team. We’re pleased to welcome their cyber policyholders to Emergence and continue supporting them with specialist cyber protection and practical end-to-end support before, during and after a cyber incident.

The transaction also brings Blue Zebra head of cyber Aaron Langmaid to Emergence from July. Filipcevic said Langmaid’s experience will add further cyber expertise to the business as the acquired portfolio moves across.

Blue Zebra CEO Rowan Watson said the transaction gives existing policyholders continued cover while widening the cyber services available to them. It also allows Blue Zebra to concentrate resources on its main insurance products and its relationships with brokers and customers.

Emergence has built a strong reputation in cyber insurance and shares our commitment to protecting policyholders. This acquisition gives our policyholders access to broader cover options, additional support services and deep cyber expertise.

Blue Zebra CEO Rowan Watson

The two businesses also expect to continue working together. Watson said there is scope for Blue Zebra and Emergence to collaborate on further cyber initiatives after completion of the portfolio transfer.

In June, Blue Zebra announced a rebrand and consolidation of its underwriting businesses, bringing SGUA and Allstate Underwriting Agency, part of The Proplab Group and Point Insurance together under one stable to form a single unified Blue Zebra brand.

The move marks a significant evolution for Blue Zebra, emerging with an all-new identity, sharper operating model and stronger focus on connection, accountability and trust across the insurance value chain.

The rebrand follows the completion of a share sale transaction on 11 February 2026, formally creating one combined entity. It allows Blue Zebra to draw on the collective strengths, specialist expertise and platform capability of each business, delivered through one relationship, one brand and one front door.

It will also allow for fast execution teamed with human care and deep specialist knowledge across the teams, creating a new operating model that is greater than the sum of its parts.

Separately, Blue Zebra has launched a Natural Disaster Hub for customers affected by floods, cyclones and other severe weather events. The portal brings together state-specific support information, emergency contacts, claims guidance and practical resources.

Blue Zebra said the hub is intended to give broker partners faster access to information when customers are dealing with severe weather losses. The underwriting group said the service is designed to provide clearer guidance during major events and help customers progress their recovery.
