Duncan Innes-Ker – Senior Director, Fitch Wire at Fitch Ratings
Duncan Innes-Ker is a Senior Director at Fitch Wire, Fitch Ratings, based in Hong Kong SAR. Since joining Fitch in December 2019, he has contributed his extensive expertise in global insurance and financial analysis to support Fitch’s industry-leading credit ratings and market insights.
Before Fitch, Duncan spent 15 years with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), where he served as Regional Director for Asia. In this role, he led a team of 10 analysts located in London, Brisbane, Singapore, and Beijing, supported by a broader network of contributors across Asia. Duncan managed economic and political forecasting, ensuring EIU’s high standards in country analysis while driving innovation to meet client needs. He also developed a training program for in-house analysts to enhance their expertise in economic and political forecasting.
Duncan is a recognized commentator on Asian economic and political issues. He has provided insights to global news outlets such as the BBC and Reuters and frequently presented at international conferences and events, sharing EIU’s perspectives with corporate leaders, academics, and diplomats.
From 2013 to 2015, Duncan was the Head of the London chapter of Young China Watchers (YCW). As a founding member, he played a key role in building a dynamic network for professionals focusing on China’s global impact. YCW organizes discussions with academics, policymakers, and business leaders, fostering understanding of China’s evolving role in global affairs.
Duncan holds an MA in Pacific Asian Studies from SOAS University of London (2003) and a BA in Oriental Studies, specializing in Chinese Studies, from the University of Oxford (1999). His educational background provides a strong foundation for his expertise in Asian markets and political systems.
