Jean-Louis Monnier – Swiss Re Capital Markets Corp (New York)
Jean-Louis Monnier runs the insurance-linked securities business at Swiss Re Capital Markets in New York. He has been with Swiss Re for more than two decades, originally joining in 2002, and over time moved into leadership roles where he built out the firm’s distribution and structuring capacity in catastrophe bonds and alternative capital.
He oversees how Swiss Re connects sponsors with investors through the ILS market, managing everything from transaction design to business development with large cedents and capital markets participants.
Before joining Swiss Re, he worked in structured finance and derivatives at firms including Société Générale, CIBC World Markets, and Gen Re Securities, giving him a background in capital markets that he later carried into insurance risk transfer. Educated in France with an MBA from ESSEC Business School, he combines financial engineering expertise with a long view of the reinsurance cycle.
Colleagues and market participants often point to him as one of the senior figures driving innovation in catastrophe bonds and other non-traditional reinsurance products. His role places him at the center of conversations around expanding ILS beyond traditional perils, improving liquidity in secondary trading, and adapting structures to meet both sponsor demand and investor appetite.
