Regional insurtech Igloo has entered the direct-to-consumer (D2C) market in Indonesia, aiming to enhance insurance accessibility for digital consumers. Previously focused on embedded insurance and business-to-agent models, Igloo now offers affordable microinsurance products in one platform designed to simplify the insurance purchasing process.

The new platform provides coverage options for motorcycles, cars, pets, and travel, partnering with top insurers like Zurich, Sompo, SinarMas, and Oona.

With a clear interface, Igloo aims to offer full transparency on policy details, addressing common consumer concerns around coverage clarity.

Key features include rapid quotes with minimal data input, the Buy-Now-Upload-Later option for easy document submission, and extensive claims support.

The platform also integrates support through channels like WhatsApp and telesales to improve customer service.

The launch aligns with Igloo’s strategy to expand insurance distribution in Indonesia, where insurance penetration sits at only 2.7%, well below other ASEAN countries. The platform primarily targets young, tech-savvy users to foster digital literacy and financial protection.

Since a soft launch in May 2023, igloo has seen nearly 20,000 monthly visitors with limited marketing, reflecting a demand for straightforward and dependable insurance options.

Our users prioritize ease in purchasing and robust customer service, and igloo reflects these priorities.

Igloo’s D2C expansion complements its broader growth strategy. In 2022, it launched Ignite, a digital platform to equip insurance agents with tools for meeting evolving client needs. Igloo also collaborates with brands like Oppo, realme, and Circle K to strengthen offline-to-online customer engagement.
