Lancashire names new CEOs in UK and Bermuda as leadership transitions begin

Lancashire Syndicates and Lancashire Insurance Co.will see a change at the top in early 2026. Rachel Sabbarton will take over as CEO of Lancashire Syndicates, replacing John Spence, while Jennifer Wilson will succeed Hayley Johnston as CEO of Lancashire Insurance Co. in Bermuda.

Both appointments remain subject to regulatory approval, and Spence and Johnston plan to retire.

  • Rachel Sabbarton currently serves as chief underwriting officer for Lancashire Insurance Co. (UK) Ltd. She joined the group as head of marine, energy, and specialty insurance, later stepping into the CUO role in April 2025. In her upcoming position, she will retain oversight of marine, energy, and specialty lines.
  • Jennifer Wilson, the group’s financial planning and analysis director, began her Lancashire career in 2010 as a project accountant. She advanced through finance leadership roles, including CFO of Lancashire Insurance Co., before assuming her current post in 2024. She will continue leading group financial planning alongside her new CEO duties.

As part of the changes, Matthew Thomas will succeed Sabbarton as CUO for Lancashire Insurance Co. (UK), while keeping his roles as active underwriter and CUO of the Lancashire syndicates.

Colette Murphy will become deputy CUO for Lancashire Insurance Co. (UK) and will lead the group’s property direct and facultative portfolio, succeeding Matthew Narbett, who was recently promoted to deputy group CUO.
