Donna Glenn – Chief Actuary at the National Council on Compensation Insurance
Donna is NCCI’s Chief Actuary delivering on its mission – to foster a healthy workers compensation system.
I am honored to hold one of the most engaging and challenging roles in the insurance industry as chief actuary of the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI). Our team develops loss cost and rate analysis for 38 states. Each year, the team analyzes workers comp business representing more than $28 billion in private market premium, $900 million in residual market premium, $68 million medical claims transactions and 3.3 million insurance policies.
One of my responsibilities is to prepare and present NCCI’s State of the Line, an in-depth annual look at the financial health of workers compensation in the U.S. I also lead a team of 100+ actuaries and analysts who develop insights that keep the workers compensation system healthy for all stakeholders: workers, employers, carriers, regulators and policymakers. Our key initiatives include developing a robust response to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn while also improving our analytics to support the industry for the next decade.
My career path is a bit unusual for an actuary, since I’ve held several roles outside traditional actuarial functions. I’ve developed product and underwriting strategies as a product manager involving cross functional engagement with claims professionals, regulatory and compliance professionals, front line underwriters, and agents and brokers. In addition, I have led significant system enhancement initiatives to support product and underwriting strategies.
I am a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
