American International Group Inc. appointed John Neal. He will step into the role of President at AIG effective December 1, 2025.
He will report directly to Chairman & CEO Peter Zaffino and join AIG’s executive leadership team, overseeing the general insurance division, including North America commercial insurance, international commercial insurance, and global personal insurance businesses.
Neal previously served as CEO of Lloyd’s from October 2018 to January 2025. Before that, he held several leadership positions at QBE, including group CEO, chief underwriting officer, and chief operating officer.
Prior he served as Chief Executive Officer at Lloyd’s of London from October 2018 to January 2025, where he led a successful market turnaround and navigated major challenges such as the COVID‑19 pandemic, natural catastrophes, and cultural reform initiatives.
Under his leadership, Lloyd’s reported record‐level underwriting profits (£5.9 bn in 2023 and £4.9 bn in H1 2024), and implemented cultural changes addressing misconduct.
Earlier in his career, Neal held senior roles at QBE, including Group CEO, Chief Underwriting Officer, and Chief Operating Officer for European operations.
In January 2025, after leaving Lloyd’s, he was briefly slated to join Aon as Global CEO of Reinsurance and Global Chairman of Climate Solutions but opted instead to join AIG.
AIG’s Zaffino described Neal as “one of the most accomplished insurance executives in the industry,” and highlighted his global underwriting experience and leadership, which is expected to strengthen AIG’s underwriting discipline and drive profitable growth.
Neal emphasized his excitement to contribute to AIG’s strategy and serve its clients and stakeholders.
