- Verisk acquired McKenzie Intelligence Services to add real-time geospatial intelligence and event response capabilities to its catastrophe risk business.
- MIS strengthens Verisk’s catastrophe, SRCC and political violence analytics by providing rapid damage assessment, exposure estimates, claims triage and incident-level intelligence during live events.
- The deal supports Verisk’s broader move toward a connected risk platform, combining catastrophe models, claims tools, risk data and live event intelligence for insurers and reinsurers.
Verisk has acquired McKenzie Intelligence Services, adding real-time geospatial intelligence and event response capability to its catastrophe and risk analytics business.
The Nasdaq-listed insurance data and technology company said MIS brings global catastrophe and conflict event analysis into its broader risk platform. The company did not disclose deal terms.
Verisk said the transaction isn’t expected to have a material effect on financial results.
MIS specializes in rapid post-event damage assessment, military-grade intelligence and operational insight after major loss events. Its data helps insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters assess damage, quantify exposure and decide where to move resources after a catastrophe or conflict-related incident. A hailstorm, wildfire, flood or riot does not wait for a claims team to assemble clean information.
MIS collects and analyzes geospatial data from multiple sources, giving clients property-level damage assessments, portfolio exposure estimates, claims triage support, litigation evidence and loss information for financial decisions.
The deal also strengthens Verisk’s position in strikes, riots and civil commotion, or SRCC, and political violence analytics. Those risks have become more difficult to price as civil unrest, war-adjacent disruption and infrastructure exposure move through commercial portfolios.
According to Verisk, MIS adds incident-level intelligence that works while an event unfolds, not after the market has already absorbed the loss.
Rob Newbold, president of Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions, said Verisk and MIS share a focus on helping clients make faster decisions before, during and after catastrophe events.
By bringing MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence together with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics, and claims solutions, we can give clients a more complete view of unfolding events so they can assess impacts, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively

MIS founder Forbes McKenzie said the companies had already worked together to add real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis. He said joining Verisk made sense as catastrophes become more disruptive worldwide.
We’ve worked with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis, so it felt like a natural fit to join the team, especially as catastrophes grow increasingly disruptive around the world.
Forbes McKenzie, founder of MIS
“Together with Verisk’s risk modelling and claims solutions, we can help insurers better serve policyholders during their most challenging moments”, Forbes McKenzie said.
MIS will join Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions unit. The business adds real-time geospatial intelligence to Verisk’s catastrophe models, global loss indexes, analytics and risk data. Verisk also pointed to Verisk Maplecroft’s work in external risk monitoring across operations, supply chains and investments, which gives clients a broader view of emerging threats and live events.
The acquisition fits Verisk’s recent product push. Its Catastrophe and Risk Solutions business introduced Verisk Synergy Studio, a cloud-native platform built to bring catastrophe modeling, exposure management and risk analytics into one environment.
The platform supports more frequent model updates and connects model output with enterprise risk workflows.
Verisk also acquired Verisk Model Exchange in 2025. The platform lets insurers evaluate multiple independent views of catastrophe risk in a governed, vendor-neutral environment. It uses open standards, including a non-proprietary exposure data framework, so different models run through a consistent financial engine.
According to Beinsure analysts, Verisk is moving toward a more event-driven catastrophe risk stack. The acquisition gives it live intelligence, not only modeled loss views.
For insurers facing faster-moving catastrophe, political violence and supply-chain events, that mix has commercial value.
Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions forms part of AIR Worldwide Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Verisk Analytics. Verisk serves the global insurance industry with data analytics, software, scientific research and insurance expertise across underwriting, claims, fraud, catastrophe risk, climate exposure, sustainability and political risk.
