Allianz Group has announced new chief executive appointments at Allianz Partners and Allianz Direct following Tomas Kunzmann’s appointment to the Allianz SE Board of Management. The changes are intended to maintain continuity across the group’s digital insurance businesses spanning motor, home, travel, assistance and health.
Philipp Kroetz, currently CEO of Allianz Direct, will become CEO of Allianz Partners on November 1, 2026. Laurent Floquet, currently chief operating officer of Allianz Partners, will succeed Kroetz as CEO of Allianz Direct on the same date. Both appointments remain subject to regulatory approval.
A successor to Floquet at Allianz Partners will be announced later. Allianz said the timing of the appointments is designed to allow orderly handovers across the businesses.
Kroetz has led Allianz Direct since 2022, developing the company into a profitable European digital P&C insurance platform serving more than 3.2 million customers. During his tenure, the business nearly doubled its customer base across five European markets and increased its customer rating from 4.4 to 4.6 stars.
Allianz Direct recorded more than €1.5 bn in total business volume in 2025, with a 95% combined ratio and 23% year-over-year growth. The insurer also introduced AI-supported claims settlement completed within 60 seconds and indicative pricing through ChatGPT.
Kroetz joined Allianz Group from McKinsey & Company in 2011 and spent 10 years at Allianz Partners in several roles. He served as regional CEO for German-speaking countries before becoming chief transformation officer and joining the Allianz Partners Board of Management in 2019, where he worked on scaling products, processes and platforms across the business.
He holds a master’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the London School of Economics and a Diplom-Kaufmann degree from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
Floquet has served as COO of Allianz Partners since January 2025, overseeing the rollout of AI-assisted customer services including voice agents and automated claims handling across roadside assistance, travel and medical cases. Before moving into the COO position, he was a member of the Board of Management responsible for the Assistance business.
He joined Allianz Group in 2014 as head of business development for Allianz Technology. Floquet became chief sales officer for the Assistance Business of Allianz Partners in 2016, then served as regional CEO for DACH and Eastern Europe from 2019 to 2021. He was appointed chief officer for Mobility & Assistance in 2022.
Before Allianz, Floquet spent more than 10 years at Accenture as a partner working with insurance clients. He holds an MBA from E.M. Lyon.
Kroetz, Floquet and Kunzmann have all worked on Allianz’s Connected Platforms initiative under Sirma Boshnakova, member of the Allianz SE Board of Management responsible for Insurance Western & Southern Europe, Allianz Direct and Allianz Partners.
The concept brings together AI-supported technology and Allianz’s service networks across customer-facing insurance businesses.
“Allianz Partners and Allianz Direct are central to our ambition to build Connected Platforms, Allianz’s irreplicable combination of AI-enabled technology with real-world global service networks that bring individualized solutions and simplified interfaces within reach for our customers,” Boshnakova said.
She said bringing the businesses closer together is also creating stronger links between teams and senior management. Kroetz and Floquet have both shown how digital insurance models support customer and shareholder value, she added, and will bring that experience into their new positions.
