Atrium Underwriters expands InsurX tie-up as smart follow GWP tops $100 mn

Atrium Underwriters, a UK-based managing agent at Lloyd’s of London, responsible for operating several Lloyd’s syndicates on behalf of capital providers, has widened its partnership with InsurX, extending its use of smart follow technology across property business.

Atrium’s Syndicate 609, already active as a smart lead on the InsurX platform, will now participate as an independent smart follow market.

The change allows Atrium to follow its own lead property direct and facultative lines through InsurX’s algorithmic engine. The firm said the move breaks new ground for the market.

The announcement lands alongside a financial marker for the partnership. More than $100 mn of smart follow gross written premium has been bound through the consortium since launch.

According to Beinsure, the figure points to a fast shift in broker behaviour as rules-based placement gains traction in property lines.

Nick Leppard, head of property D&F at Atrium, said close to $100 mn in bound premium already proved the case for algorithmic underwriting in complex risks.

He said extending Atrium’s role through InsurX shows confidence in a model built around consistency and speed.

“Expanding our involvement via InsurX’s smart follow technology demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering a consistent and efficient route to capacity for our brokers and clients.”

Since January 2024, InsurX has provided algorithmic follow capacity behind Atrium’s lead property D&F placements. Brokers gained quicker access to follow lines sitting behind a recognised lead.

The addition of independent smart follow capacity now lifts indexation across the platform and routes more Atrium risks through the mechanism.

  • For brokers, the change widens access to Atrium lines and adds flexibility at placement.
  • For insurers, it increases the volume and range of risks flowing through a transparent, rules-driven system.

Gilbert Harrap, co-founder and chief executive of InsurX, said Atrium backed the model from the start. He said the decision to follow its own lead signals trust in both underwriting discipline and the technology itself.

Atrium has been one of our flagship Smart Leads from day one, and their decision to follow their own lead line through InsurX is a powerful endorsement of the model. It demonstrates real confidence in their underwriting and in our technology.

Harrap said the expansion simplifies access to extra Atrium capacity and increases risk flow across the panel. He also said smart follow adoption keeps climbing, a pattern likely to draw attention as the market heads into 2026.

“For brokers, it means simpler, faster access to additional Atrium capacity; for the panel, it increases indexation and the volume of risks seen across the platform. It is also a clear sign of the growth we’re seeing in smart follow adoption; and a trend the market will be watching closely as we move into 2026.”
