LightSpun, a Boston-based startup formerly known as 32Health, has secured $13mn in Series A financing to expand its AI-powered dental insurance administration platform.
The round, led by Brewer Lane with support from Virtue, Cambrian, and Industry Ventures, brings the company’s total funding to $18mn. Brewer Lane’s Rohan Malhotra and Virtue’s Sean Doolan will take seats on the board.
The company’s platform automates claims adjudication, benefits management, and provider onboarding.
LightSpun says customers are cutting administrative costs in half, with more than 90% of claims processed automatically and provider onboarding times reduced from two months to less than a week. To date, the system has processed over 175,000 dental providers.
The new financing follows a partnership with the American Dental Association to roll out AI-powered credentialing nationwide—an initiative aimed at addressing chronic bottlenecks in provider access and patient care.
Nearly 300 mn Americans rely on dental insurance, but claim processing still takes 15–60 days for routine procedures, with one in seven claims filed by paper or fax.
About 18% of every premium dollar is lost to administrative overhead. These bottlenecks drive up costs and limit access for patients, dentists, and payers nationwide. Venture capital is zeroing in on this inefficiency: in 2024 alone, dental AI startups drew a record $145 mn.
Rohan Malhotra of Brewer Lane called dental insurance “an industry running on infrastructure abandoned decades ago” and said LightSpun has distinguished itself by delivering tangible results for payers, group practices, and patients alike.
“Dental insurance runs on infrastructure that most businesses abandoned decades ago,” said Rohan Malhotra, General Partner at Brewer Lane.
LightSpun stands out not just for its AI platform, but for real traction solving administrative headaches for payers, group practices, DSOs, and the millions who just want faster, transparent, better care.
CEO and co-founder Shaju Puthussery said the company’s long-term vision is to improve patient outcomes while lowering costs, powered by an AI-native platform that replaces outdated technology across the dental insurance value chain.
LightSpun will use the Series A capital to expand engineering and product teams, advance platform development, and scale partnerships with insurers and dental service organizations through 2026.
