MS Amlin partners with MSI on UAE political risk reinsurance

MS Amlin, a global specialty commercial insurer and reinsurer headquartered in London, has launched a reinsurance partnership with parent company Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance focused on political risk clients in the United Arab Emirates.

The arrangement runs through MS Amlin’s Dubai branch and provides contract frustration protection for MSI’s banking client portfolio. MSI brings the client relationships and provides the underwriting.

All risks written by MSI’s UAE branch will be ceded to MS Amlin under the structure.

MS Amlin said the partnership builds on more than 20 years of underwriting experience in political risk and over a decade of operating presence in the region. MSI’s UAE team will continue servicing existing clients while pursuing new regional opportunities.

MS Amlin entered the Middle East political risk market in 2025 following the appointment of political risk underwriter Osama Elshiekh.

The insurer said the account has expanded steadily since then, supported by regional lender demand and cross-border financing activity.

The deal fits into MS Amlin’s broader Middle East growth plan. The insurer already writes marine, casualty, and crisis management business across the region.

For MSI, the partnership supports wider ambitions to scale its international footprint while maintaining local client engagement.

  • Vipul Gupta said demand for balance sheet protection continues to rise. He pointed to a buoyant regional economy and increased lending activity, particularly among banks and credit providers funding domestic and international development.
  • Yoshinori Nakamura said the arrangement strengthens service capability for clients across the Middle East, giving lenders access to political risk protection backed by specialist underwriting through a local platform.

Gupta said lenders need reliable protection to support growth while managing capital exposure. He described MS Amlin as well positioned to write these risks, combining regional underwriting with support from specialist teams in London. That structure, he said, allows global perspective without losing local insight.

Gupta also framed the partnership as a practical example of group collaboration. He said working within the MSI network allows MS Amlin to expand its portfolio while keeping frictional costs low, aligning with its broader partnerships strategy.
