PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL) stock price forecast: new Wall Street targets

PayPal shares are trading near $58 on October 21, 2026, ahead of third-quarter earnings on October 27. The latest analyst consensus is Hold, with a 12-month price target of $56.74, based on 44 analysts surveyed by S&P Global.

The target range spans $36-$80, although most major investment banks have considerably narrower forecasts. Recent downgrades suggest analysts remain unconvinced by PayPal’s turnaround despite its relatively low earnings multiple.

RBC Capital MarketsOutperform$70

These are published analyst targets, not a single forecast. They were updated on different dates between July and October 2026.

  • Goldman Sachs reduced its price target from $50 to $49 on October 13, retaining its bearish stance. Bank of America downgraded PayPal on October 15 with a $53 target. Citi maintained $61, while Barclays lowered its target to $56.
  • JPMorgan’s $65 estimate dates from July 29, and RBC’s $70 target from August 31. Both precede the latest round of downgrades.

The divergence between Goldman Sachs and RBC Capital Markets is significant. Their targets imply different expectations for PayPal’s ability to protect payment margins and restore growth in branded checkout.

Why analysts remain cautious about PYPL

Cleveland Research downgraded PayPal from Neutral to Underperform on October 19. Its research pointed to weaker international branded checkout volumes, market share losses and increasing price competition in Braintree.

The firm also reported limited progress in buy now, pay later adoption. Merchants adding PayPal’s BNPL option weren’t necessarily generating higher total PayPal payment volumes. Cleveland Research expects the recovery to take time.

PayPal’s Q2 2026 financial results explain some of the caution.

Financial indicatorQ2 2026Annual change
Revenue$8.68 bn+5%
Total payment volume$486.4 bn+10%
Transaction margin dollars$3.9 bn+1%

Free cash flow$1.78 bn+157%

Transaction volume increased considerably faster than transaction margin dollars. Operating profitability also weakened despite higher revenue.

PayPal’s $1.78 bn quarterly free cash flow remains a financial strength, but cash generation alone doesn’t resolve concerns about payment economics.

PayPal Q3 2026 earnings forecast

PayPal is scheduled to announce third-quarter results before the market opens on October 27.

The earnings consensus indicates modest revenue growth alongside slightly lower adjusted EPS.

The figures investors need to examine are branded checkout volume growth, Braintree pricing, transaction margins and management’s revised full-year guidance.

PayPal stock outlook for 2026-2027

The verified analyst consensus offers little upside from the current share price. PayPal trades at approximately 11 times trailing earnings, but the discount to faster-growing financial technology companies accompanies weaker growth and pressure on margins.

A move toward $61-$65 would require better operating evidence than the latest analyst downgrades suggest. RBC’s $70 target represents a more optimistic valuation, dependent on improved confidence in PayPal’s earnings trajectory.

The immediate test comes on October 27. Until PayPal reports its third-quarter results, the most defensible assessment is a neutral stock outlook, with $56–$61 representing the cluster of recent major-bank targets rather than a guaranteed trading range.
