Spanish Tuio launched first insurer-built AI app approved on ChatGPT

OpenAI has approved the first insurance provider-built AI application to operate inside ChatGPT, clearing the way for real-time insurance distribution within a conversational interface.

The app was developed by Tuio and runs on infrastructure from WaniWani. Users can request a personalised home insurance quote directly within ChatGPT.

Policy purchase functionality is expected to follow, allowing end-to-end binding without leaving the chat environment.

OpenAI pointed to a 2025 Express Legal Funding study indicating 33% of US adults have used ChatGPT for financial advice. Research behavior is shifting. Distribution appears to be moving with it.

Until now, AI chat interfaces delivered static, scraped answers. They did not generate regulated, real-time pricing tied to an individual risk profile.

OpenAI said the new approval allows an insurer to quote an actual premium for a specific customer inside a platform used by hundreds of millions of consumers.

Insurance purchasing traditionally requires forms, call centers, or intermediated journeys. The Tuio app gathers underwriting inputs through natural dialogue, interprets intent, and returns a personalised quote from a regulated carrier in real time.

According to Beinsure, conversational underwriting interfaces could compress acquisition funnels and reduce friction in direct-to-consumer channels, especially in personal lines.

The approval signals broader movement. Insurify received approval last week, and WaniWani said a dozen additional insurance AI applications across North America and Europe are in review.

Other AI ecosystems are moving as well. Applications built on similar standards already operate within Anthropic’s Claude platform, and Google’s Gemini is preparing third-party app standards.

Tuio Co-founder and CEO Juan García said early presence inside ChatGPT allows the company to convert customers at the point of discovery.

We’ve massively leveraged AI to improve our insurance experience and run more efficiently. Being the first provider live on ChatGPT allows us to convert new customers right at the point of discovery.

WaniWani Co-founder Raphael Vullierme described the launch as the starting line for AI-led distribution, arguing insurers will feel the shift whether they participate directly or not.

Raphael Vullierme, Co-founder of WaniWani, added: “I spent almost a decade running an insurer, sitting inside the insurance value chain. I could foresee how AI would reshape distribution. Today is day zero of that transformation.

For the first time, AI can access real offers, quote on behalf of the buyer, and compare coverage in real time. Every insurer will be impacted, whether they’ve built an AI app or not.

For the first time, AI platforms can access live offers, quote on behalf of buyers, and compare coverage instantly. Distribution channels just widened.
