Supplemental Security Income November payout: Up to $994 for eligible recipients

Supplemental Security Income November payout: Up to $994 arriving October 30

Millions of Americans receiving Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are scheduled to receive payments during the final week of October 2026, with two separate distributions planned for October 28 and October 30.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue its final regular October retirement benefit payments on October 28 to eligible beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 21st and 31st of any month. Depending on their earnings history and retirement age, some recipients could qualify for monthly benefits as high as $5,181.

  • The final October 2026 Social Security payments are scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
  • November Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments will arrive Friday, October 30, with federal monthly maximums of $994 for individuals and $1,491 for eligible couples.
  • Social Security and SSI benefits will increase by 3.6% in 2027, raising the estimated average monthly retirement benefit by approximately $75.

Two days later, October 30, eligible SSI recipients will receive their November benefits ahead of schedule. The adjustment is necessary because November 1 falls on a Sunday, when the agency does not ordinarily issue payments.

The early SSI distribution does not represent an additional benefit. It is the regular November payment delivered before the beginning of the month.

Both payments follow the SSA’s published 2026 benefit calendar, which establishes separate schedules for retirement benefits and the federal income-support program.

Social Security payment schedule for October 2026

Social Security retirement benefits are generally distributed on three Wednesdays each month, with payment dates determined by the beneficiary’s birthday.

Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of any month ordinarily receive their benefits on the second Wednesday. Those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, while beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st receive payments on the fourth Wednesday.

For October 2026, the regular payment dates are October 14, October 21 and October 28, respectively. The October 28 distribution is therefore the final regularly scheduled Wednesday payment for the month.

Different arrangements apply to people who began receiving Social Security benefits before May 1997 and certain beneficiaries who receive both Social Security and SSI.

Under the SSA’s payment calendar, these individuals generally receive their Social Security benefits on the third day of the month and their SSI payments on the first, subject to adjustments for weekends and federal holidays.

The agency advises beneficiaries whose payments do not arrive as scheduled to allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.

November SSI payments arrive early on October 30

Supplemental Security Income provides financial assistance to people with limited income and resources who are at least 65 years old, blind or have a qualifying disability.

Unlike retirement benefits, which are primarily determined by an individual’s covered earnings history, SSI eligibility and payment amounts depend on financial circumstances and other program requirements.

Federal SSI payments are normally issued on the first day of each month. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are moved to the preceding business day.

Because November 1, 2026, is a Sunday, November benefits will be distributed on Friday, October 30.

The SSA’s remaining SSI payment schedule for 2026 includes December benefits on Tuesday, December 1, and January 2027 benefits on Thursday, December 31.

The December 31 payment will also be the first SSI distribution incorporating the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment.

How much can SSI recipients receive in November?

The maximum federal SSI payment for 2026 is $994 per month for an eligible individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple.

The federal payment standard for an essential person, an individual meeting specific requirements related to providing necessary care to an SSI recipient, is $498 per month.

These figures represent maximum federal payment standards rather than amounts guaranteed to every beneficiary.

Actual payments can vary according to countable income, living arrangements and other eligibility considerations. Some states also provide supplementary SSI payments, which can increase the total amount eligible individuals receive.

Applicants must satisfy financial eligibility requirements and qualify on the basis of age, blindness or disability.

They must generally be US citizens or nationals, or noncitizens who meet certain immigration classifications and eligibility requirements established under federal law.

Residency restrictions also apply. Eligible recipients must generally live in one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or the Northern Mariana Islands.

Beneficiaries who remain outside those jurisdictions for an entire calendar month or at least 30 consecutive days may lose eligibility, subject to specified exceptions.

Maximum Social Security retirement benefits reach $5,181 in 2026

The maximum Social Security retirement benefit differs considerably from the federal SSI payment standard.

Retirement benefits are calculated using an individual’s earnings record and the age at which benefits begin. Workers with higher lifetime earnings subject to Social Security taxes generally qualify for larger payments.

The SSA provides three examples for a worker who earned the maximum taxable amount each year beginning at age 22 and starts receiving retirement benefits in 2026.

Such a worker retiring at age 62 could receive $2,969 per month. At full retirement age, the monthly benefit could reach $4,152, while someone waiting until age 70 could receive $5,181.

The $5,181 figure is therefore a maximum-benefit example for a particular earnings and retirement profile, rather than a standard payment available to all retirees.

Workers with lower lifetime earnings, or those who begin claiming benefits earlier, may receive substantially smaller amounts.

The distinction is particularly relevant when comparing retirement benefits with SSI. The programs have different eligibility conditions, funding arrangements and methods for determining monthly payments.

Social Security and SSI benefits will increase 3.6% in 2027

The upcoming payments follow the SSA’s October 14 announcement that Social Security and SSI benefits for approximately 76 mn Americans will increase by 3.6% in 2027.

The annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is intended to account for changes in consumer prices.

For 2027, the increase was calculated using changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) between the third quarter of 2025 and the third quarter of 2026.

Nearly 72 mn Social Security beneficiaries will receive the increase beginning with payments issued in January 2027. Approximately 7.3 mn SSI recipients will receive their higher benefits earlier, starting December 31, 2026. Some individuals receive payments under both programs.

According to SSA estimates, the average monthly benefit for retired workers will increase from $2,095 to $2,170, a rise of approximately $75.

For an aged couple in which both individuals receive retirement benefits, the estimated combined monthly payment will rise from $3,238 to $3,355.

Disabled workers are projected to receive an average monthly payment of $1,701, compared with $1,642 before the adjustment.

The federal SSI payment standard will also increase in 2027, reaching $1,029 for eligible individuals and $1,544 for eligible couples. These changes take effect automatically. Beneficiaries do not need to submit a separate application to receive the COLA increase.

The SSA will notify recipients of their individual updated benefit amounts, with online notices available through personal my Social Security accounts and mailed notices scheduled for December.

For now, the immediate payment dates remain October 28 for the final regular October Social Security distribution and October 30 for November SSI benefits. The next scheduled SSI payment after that will arrive December 1, before the increased January 2027 payment is issued on December 31.
