Egypt starts Eid al-Adha medical insurance and emergency plan across

Egypt has launched a nationwide medical insurance plan for Eid al-Adha across all governorates. Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the plan aims to protect public health and speed emergency response during the holiday period.

The plan strengthens preventive, treatment, and emergency services. It also includes medical coverage on highways, designated referral hospitals, rapid response teams, higher medical supply readiness, and 24/7 monitoring rooms.

Abdel Ghaffar said all hospitals have raised readiness levels. Coastal and highway hospitals will receive extra attention, with more doctors and nurses and organized shifts in surgery and intensive care units.

Primary healthcare services will continue during the holiday. The ministry will operate 238 formula milk distribution outlets and 47 pre-marriage screening facilities.

The plan also includes 26 mobile medical convoys near mosques and public parks. Those units are meant to handle basic care needs close to major gathering areas.

Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the plan secures oxygen, ICU bed support, and medication supplies. Poison control centers and the emergency hotline 137 will remain fully ready around the clock.

The Egyptian Ambulance Authority has raised its readiness level as well. It will deploy 1,673 ambulances near mosques, parks, and major roads.

The authority will also use 11 river and marine rescue boats. The ministry has secured 17,253 blood units, with 15% reserved for emergencies.

Preventive measures include more monitoring of drinking water and swimming pools. The plan also covers rapid response to food poisoning cases and expanded vector control campaigns.

The minister reviewed preparedness across Universal Health Insurance Authority facilities. That includes 287 family medicine units and 39 hospitals.

He said those facilities must ensure rapid intervention and coordination with ambulance services. Central monitoring teams will continue field inspections during the holiday.

Abdel Ghaffar also directed officials to link the central crisis room with governorate operations rooms. The ministry said this coordination will support faster responses to incidents during Eid al-Adha.
