Floodbase, the AI platform for insuring uncovered flood risk, has rolled out a near-real-time flood mapping platform across the continental U.S., offering on-demand event-based licensing.
The system provides immediate flood intelligence for governments, insurers, media outlets, and emergency planners—particularly during active disasters.
The product uses new AI models and added sensor data to track and measure flood activity with greater accuracy. It identifies flood peaks and now detects flash floods triggered by extreme rainfall, a growing concern in many states.
Floodbase’s platform delivers high-frequency flood data validated across a broad geographic range—from local incidents to large-scale, multi-state events.
It supports claim assessment, parametric payouts, public communication, and emergency planning by delivering verified maps during and after events.
During the 2024 hurricane season, the company worked closely with FEMA, supplying updated flood maps within days of Hurricane Helene.
Its system covered over 500,000 square miles across nine states, helping federal teams monitor all major storms and fill gaps in existing data.
Fremont, California, is one of several cities using the platform to maintain city-wide flood insurance. The system’s reliability and update frequency make it suitable for continuous coverage in high-risk areas.
This is the next phase in national flood monitoring. Over the past month alone, we’ve seen major floods in Texas, New Mexico, New York, and New Jersey. Our technology gives frontline responders precise, current data on where and how floods unfold.

With forecasts calling for an above-average Atlantic hurricane season, Floodbase aims to extend coverage options and improve disaster readiness across the U.S.
Flooding disrupts businesses, decimates revenue, and requires mobilizing people and resources. Both businesses and the public sector are exposed to the full range of loss caused by floods, yet most only purchase property policies that cover damage to physical assets.
Comprehensive flood resilience requires a new category of insurance product that provides holistic protection.
By designing products that pay out based on the magnitude of flooding over a large area, Floodbase enables policies that pay out within days of an event and allow the insured to use the proceeds at their discretion. Floodbase has pioneered the science and assembled the carrier panel required to finally enable large-area flood insurance products.
