Indonesia introduced a 50% reduction in work accident and death insurance premiums for non-wage earners under the JKK-JKM schemes. The policy targets informal workers, including traders, freelancers, influencers, and ride-hailing drivers.
The discount began in January 2026 and applies across different timelines depending on worker category.
Transportation workers, including app-based drivers, non-app drivers, and couriers, receive the reduced premiums through March 2027. Other informal worker groups receive the discount between April and December 2026.
The measure lowers contribution costs to increase participation among informal workers. Despite the premium reduction, benefit levels remain unchanged across the programme.
Coverage continues to include accident compensation, death benefits, and scholarships for families.
According to Beinsure analysts, maintaining benefit levels while cutting premiums signals a policy focus on participation rather than cost reduction alone.
The eligible population extends beyond transport workers. It includes fishermen, farmers, freelancers, and small business operators. Influencers are also explicitly listed among beneficiaries, reflecting how informal work categories continue to evolve.
The government also introduced a minimum Religious Holiday Bonus benchmark for digital platform workers.
The standard equals 25% of a worker’s average net income over the previous twelve months, adding another layer of income protection.
Both measures aim to strengthen the safety net for informal workers facing economic pressure. Implementation runs through the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan system, which manages enrollment and coverage administration.
