San Francisco-based InsurTech startup Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company (AIUC) has raised $15mn in seed round led by NFDG, with participation from Emergence, Terrain, and a group of angel investors including Ben Mann, co-founder of Anthropic.
The company provides risk standards, audits, and insurance solutions designed specifically for enterprises deploying AI agents.
Its goal is to enable safer adoption of artificial intelligence in business environments.
AIUC has developed a proprietary framework called AIUC-1, which evaluates AI-related risk and ties liability coverage directly to audit outcomes. The tool serves both as a technical benchmark and a foundation for underwriting AI deployments.
The founding team includes veterans from Anthropic, McKinsey, and METR, bringing cross-disciplinary expertise from machine learning, consulting, and policy.
CEO Rune Kvist framed the offering as a foundational shift in how businesses approach AI risk.
Every major tech breakthrough—from electricity to the internet—scaled through private insurance markets. That’s the model we’re applying to AI.

“We’re building the infrastructure that allows enterprises to move fast with confidence, backed by accountability and transparency,” Rune Kvist said.
“We built the modern world with American ingenuity, free markets, and the courage to act in the face of uncertainty. Railroads, capital markets, the internet and the built world flourished after people and institutions bet money on their safety”.
The most powerful technology in human history is reshaping our world. Every day, companies are racing to deploy AI. Enterprise leaders see the inevitable transformation. But they hesitate on one question: “How do we know this is secure?”
Legal teams fear liability. Security leaders face novel attack vectors. Procurement teams can’t compare providers.
Over 1,000 AI-related bills have been introduced in U.S. state legislatures in 2025 alone. Decisions stall amid bureaucratic gridlock, while the technology advances at breakneck pace.
“We are building the infrastructure to accelerate AI adoption by certifying and insuring AI agents. Insurance built the modern world once. It must do so again”.
