Insurtech Corgi Insurance launches Corgi Re reinsurance platform

Corgi Insurance has launched Corgi Re, a reinsurance platform built around its underwriting technology and operating model. The company said the new business will focus on faster risk assessment, capital deployment and reinsurance decision-making.

Reinsurance allows primary insurers to transfer part of their exposure to other carriers and preserve capital for future claims.

Much of the sector still depends on long-standing relationships, manual workflows and spreadsheet-based underwriting, with transactions often taking considerable time to complete.

Corgi Re applies the company’s existing technology to those processes. The platform combines underwriting tools with the institutional relationships and specialist knowledge required to participate in the reinsurance market.

Reinsurance is one of the hardest markets to enter for a reason. Carriers are handing you part of their risk, and those relationships are typically built over decades, not overnight.

Jeremy Eisemann, Head of Government Affairs & Deputy General Counsel at Corgi Insurance

Eisemann said technology can improve efficiency without replacing the role of trust between counterparties. Corgi Re is being structured around both underwriting infrastructure and the relationships needed to support reinsurance transactions.

The platform is intended to give insurers better access to data during underwriting and reduce the time required to assess risk. Corgi also wants to streamline how counterparties evaluate transactions before committing capital.

“There is an enormous opportunity to modernize the way reinsurance is underwritten without losing what makes the market work,” Eisemann said. He added that the objective is to give both sides better tools and a faster process for making informed decisions.

The launch expands Corgi beyond its original focus on providing insurance directly to companies. Its existing business serves startups, technology companies and other commercial clients through a full-stack insurance model.

Corgi Re moves the company further into insurance capacity and risk transfer. Instead of focusing only on insured businesses, the new platform will also work with insurance companies seeking reinsurance support.

The reinsurance operation will sit within Corgi’s broader regulated insurance infrastructure. The company said it will maintain its existing focus on regulatory compliance, underwriting discipline and risk management as the new business develops.

Corgi describes itself as an AI financial infrastructure company focused on insurance and financial services. Headquartered in San Francisco, the company has raised more than $378 mn and operates offices in New York, London and several other US cities.

Its other locations include Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Dallas and Chicago. The launch of Corgi Re adds reinsurance to a business previously concentrated on direct commercial insurance and related financial infrastructure.
