Digital home insurance provider Kin has exceeded $100bn in total insured property value (TIV), marking a significant milestone in its expansion and profitability.
Over the past four years, Kin has grown its TIV from $10bn to $100bn, while also improving financial performance.
The reciprocal exchanges managed by Kin reduced their gross adjusted loss ratio, net of excess of loss recoveries, from 66.6% to 25.9%, reflecting stronger underwriting, improved pricing, and better risk selection.
In 2024, as TIV rose, the Kin-managed reciprocal exchanges also reported positive adjusted net income.
This result supports Kin’s business model focused on aligning with policyholder interests and operational efficiency.
Kin’s insured property value was concentrated in Florida in 2021, representing 95% of its total. By 2024, that figure had dropped to 75%, indicating successful geographic diversification and expansion efforts.
The company has launched in several catastrophe-prone states, including California, while continuing to serve homeowners in underserved markets.
According to Angel Conlin, Chief Insurance Officer, expanding geographically improves risk management and portfolio stability. She noted that as weather-related risks increase across the U.S., demand for Kin’s services continues to grow.
Reaching $100 bn in insured property value represents a pivotal moment in Kin’s journey. It’s proof that our approach to home insurance — combining cutting-edge proprietary technology with differentiated, customer-centred service — resonates deeply with homeowners across the country.
