Louisiana arrests six in long-running fire and water insurance claim fraud case

Judge rules Louisiana Insurance Department lacked authority to penalize Texas law firm for fraud

Six Louisiana residents have been arrested over an alleged insurance fraud scheme involving fire and water damage claims. The Louisiana Department of Insurance said the case spans nearly a decade.

All six suspects are from Ouachita Parish. They face charges tied to insurance fraud, identity theft, money laundering, computer fraud, forgery, and felony theft.

Lashaundalyn Whitlock, 40, faces eight counts of insurance fraud, five counts of computer fraud, three counts of identity theft, five counts of forgery, and five counts of felony theft.

Laquadra Whitlock Brown, 25, faces seven counts of insurance fraud, five counts of computer fraud, three counts of identity theft, one money laundering count, one forgery count, and eight felony theft counts.

Jaylen Whitlock, 22, Romenique Whitlock, 37, and Terrence Mays, 27, each face one count of insurance fraud and one count of felony theft. Latricia Whitlock, 19, faces one count of insurance fraud.

The investigation remains active. LDI said more arrests or additional charges are possible as investigators continue reviewing the alleged scheme.

The department said it used Anti-Fraud One, a Verisk fraud-detection platform, during the investigation.

The system includes a database of nearly 2 bn claim records and helps monitor activity linked to possible insurance fraud.

According to Verisk, Anti-Fraud One uses behavioral analytics and claim scoring to connect referrals to suspected organised insurance crime. For carriers and regulators, that kind of tool makes repeated claims patterns harder to bury.

Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said LDI is using technologies such as Anti-Fraud One and AI to identify collusive insurance fraud.

He said Louisiana has moved early on tools that are changing how fraud is detected, investigated, and prosecuted.
