MSIG Asia, the regional headquarters of a leading general insurance group in Asia, overseeing non-life insurance operations across ASEAN, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, announced leadership changes effective 1 April 2026 as its parent group restructures international strategy.
Clemens Philippi, currently Chief Executive Officer of MSIG Asia and an Executive Officer of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Japan, will become an Executive Officer of MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings and Chief Strategy Officer for the group’s international business.
Philippi will share responsibility for global strategy with Keisuke Ema, General Manager of the International Business Department at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Japan. Both executives will serve as co-Chief Strategy Officers.
They will report to Hironori Morimoto, Group Chief Global Officer of MS&AD. Their mandate focuses on strengthening integration and collaboration across the group’s international operations. Philippi will continue serving as CEO of MSIG Asia until further notice.
A separate change affects the board. Tetsuya Adachi, Chairman of MSIG Asia, will step down after completing his tenure with the group.
Norihiro Tanaka will assume the chairman role. Tanaka currently serves as Executive Officer and Head of Planning at MSIG Asia and will also join MS&AD as an Executive Officer.
Tanaka brings three decades of experience inside the group. His earlier roles included General Manager at MS Amlin Underwriting and leadership of liability and cyber insurance at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Japan before joining MSIG Asia.
Philippi thanked Adachi for his contribution during the past four years. During that period the company expanded its core portfolio, excluding India, by 45%.
Management also pushed product development and digital transformation initiatives.
He said the company set its 2029 Growth Ambition and strengthened internal capabilities, including talent development, brand positioning, and partnerships across the region.
Philippi also acknowledged his upcoming strategy role within MS&AD. He said collaboration with Morimoto, Ema, and other group executives will focus on delivering value to clients and partners across international markets.
Tanaka described MSIG Asia as operating on a strong regional platform supported by teams across the Asia-Pacific network. He said the group will continue strengthening execution and cooperation across markets while pursuing long-term performance targets.
MSIG ranks among the major general insurance brands across Asia. The business operates as a subsidiary of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance within the MS&AD Insurance Group and holds an A+ credit rating with a stable outlook.
