Who qualifies for the State Farm dividend?
Customers are eligible if they held a State Farm Mutual personal auto insurance policy at any point during 2025 and their calculated dividend is at least $10. Policyholders do not need to remain insured with State Farm in 2026 to qualify.
Payments average approximately $100 per vehicle, although individual amounts vary based on the premiums paid and the state where the policy was issued.
The dividend is calculated at 4-10% of qualifying 2025 premiums. State Farm said the percentage differences reflect each state’s contribution to its nationwide underwriting performance and financial strength.
The payment is separate from future insurance premiums and does not represent a credit toward an existing policy.

Why is State Farm returning $5 bn to customers?
The dividend follows improved financial results in State Farm’s automobile insurance operations during 2025.
The company has also reduced auto insurance rates across 40 states, generating approximately $4.6 bn in annual premium savings.
Jon Farney, State Farm Mutual’s president and CEO, said the company’s mutual ownership structure allows it to return financial benefits directly to policyholders while maintaining the capital needed to meet future insurance obligations.
State Farm emphasized that the dividend is a one-time distribution based on past underwriting performance. Future auto insurance rates will continue to reflect projected claims costs and other expected risks.
