Sun Life is expanding its use of artificial intelligence across its Canadian advisor business, adding tools designed to reduce administrative work and give financial advisors more time with clients.
The company’s growing set of AI products includes Notes Assistant, which received a 2026 CIO Award Canada, and a recently launched AI-powered advisor concierge.
Both tools are intended to cut time spent on routine tasks and speed up access to information used during client conversations.
Jessica Tan, EVP and President of Sun Life Canada, said strong financial advice depends on understanding each client’s priorities and goals. Advisor relationships are built through direct conversations and trust, she said, rather than time spent completing paperwork.
Notes Assistant applies generative AI to administrative work surrounding client meetings. It securely summarizes meetings and compiles follow-up actions, while also producing draft emails for advisors.
Sun Life says the tool saves advisors between 15 and 30 minutes for each client session. Across multiple appointments, those savings add up to several hours each week.
The product recently received a 2026 CIO Award Canada for its use of generative AI within advisor workflows.
Sun Life has since added an AI-powered advisor concierge to the same set of tools. The service gives advisors a quicker way to search for information about products, policies and internal processes while working with clients.
The concierge launched last month and has already been used during more than 11,000 client conversations, according to Sun Life.
Laura Money, Executive Vice-President and Chief Information and Technology Innovation Officer at Sun Life, said the company sees AI as a way to make employees more effective without removing human judgment from financial services.
She said Notes Assistant represents the approach Sun Life is taking as it expands AI across the company. Governance, privacy and security requirements are being built into deployments from the start.
Sun Life’s advisor AI program is focused on shifting time away from administrative work and toward client-facing activity. Notes Assistant handles work generated after meetings, while the advisor concierge focuses on finding information during day-to-day advisory work.
The company is continuing to expand AI use across its operations while keeping advisors responsible for the client relationship and the decisions made within it.
