Dutch insurer Achmea is weighing the sale of its life insurance division

Dutch insurer Achmea is weighing the sale of its life insurance division, Dutch financial daily FD reported.

Achmea has hired JPMorgan to chart the possibilities for the division, including a sale which bankers estimated could yield around 3 billion euros.

Achmea is the Netherlands’ largest cooperative insurer, whose customers contributed 21 billion euros in premiums in 2022.

Achmea is an insurance cooperative and mutual holding company based in the Netherlands. Founded in 1811, today Achmea is the largest insurance provider in the Netherlands and Europe’s third largest mutual insurer.

The company serves 10 million members in Europe, Canada and Australia with a staff of 16,000 employees. In 2018, Achmea’s gross written premium was approximately EUR 20 billion.

The Vereniging Achmea (association) owns or controls 63.3% of Achmea B.V. of its votes, the Dutch bank Rabobank owns or controls 31.3% of the shares, the other 5.4% of the shares are owned or controlled by strategic partners.
