Allianz reshuffles Board of Management as Tomas Kunzmann joins in 2027

Allianz SE has announced a set of leadership changes at board level, tying the move to succession planning, strategic development, and the company’s internal talent bench.

The reshuffle follows the planned retirement of Klaus-Peter Röhler, who will leave the Allianz SE Board of Management on December 31, 2026, after reaching the age limit and completing his contractual term. His departure will close a 30-year career at Allianz.

All announced changes remain subject to regulatory approval where needed. The company said they will take effect on January 1, 2027.

  • Tomas Kunzmann, currently CEO of Allianz Partners, will join the Board of Management of Allianz SE, effective January 1, 2027, and will assume responsibility for Asia Pacific, including India.
  • Renate Wagner, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, will assume responsibility for Germany, Switzerland, and Central Europe.
  • Sirma Boshnakova, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, will assume responsibility for Global Property & Casualty Retail.
  • The mandate of Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre as Chief Financial Officer of Allianz SE has been extended until December 31, 2031.
  • Klaus-Peter Röhler will retire from the Allianz SE Board on December 31, 2026, upon the expiry of his mandate and reaching the age limit.

Tomas Kunzmann will join the Allianz SE Board of Management in 2027. He has served as chief executive of Allianz Partners since 2022. In the new role, he will take responsibility for Allianz’s regional business in Asia Pacific, including India. Allianz said a successor for his current post at Allianz Partners will be announced later.

Renate Wagner, already a member of the Allianz SE Board of Management, will take over responsibility for Germany, Switzerland, and Central Europe. She will also retain responsibility for the People and Culture and Mergers and Acquisitions portfolios. At the same time, she will hand over her Asia Pacific responsibilities to Kunzmann.

The company also changed reporting lines inside its retail insurance structure. The global property and casualty retail unit, which directs retail businesses worldwide, will report to Sirma Boshnakova.

She currently oversees Insurance Western and Southern Europe, Allianz Direct, and Allianz Partners on the Allianz SE board.

Allianz also extended the mandate of chief financial officer Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre. Her term now runs for another five years through December 31, 2031. That extension adds continuity at a point when other parts of the board are shifting.

Supervisory Board chairman Michael Diekmann thanked Röhler for his contribution over three decades and welcomed Kunzmann’s appointment to the board.

Chief executive Oliver Bäte described Röhler as a leader who combined strong execution with integrity across multiple roles at Allianz. He also said Kunzmann reflects the kind of technology-oriented leadership Allianz wants in its future pipeline.

Bäte pointed to Kunzmann’s work at Allianz Partners as a reason for the promotion. He said Kunzmann has driven growth and technology transformation in one of Allianz’s flagship global business lines. He also framed Allianz Partners as a strategic model for how the company plans to expand in growth markets.

Kunzmann, 44, has led Allianz Partners since July 1, 2022. During his tenure, the business has served more than 90 mn customers globally and generated more than EUR 10.5 bn in annual revenue in 2025.

Operating profit reached EUR 402 mn, while profitability remained solid. Allianz said Allianz Partners and Allianz Direct now sit at the center of its Connected Platforms strategy, which combines insurance operations, AI-enhanced technology, and a global service network to support more personalized customer experiences.

Kunzmann joined Allianz Group in 2009 and has held several roles across the organization. He worked at Allianz Private Krankenversicherung, including as head of health underwriting.

In 2013, he moved into Allianz’s German sales organization and later managed regional branch offices in Ingolstadt and Kempten. In 2017, he joined Allianz SE headquarters as executive assistant and interim head of office to the CEO. In 2020, he became a board member at Allianz Partners, leading the Mobility and Assistance line of business.

He studied business administration at Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen and Nuremberg, with periods of study in Washington, D.C., and Jyväskylä, Finland.

According to Beinsure analysts, large insurers increasingly tie board appointments to technology execution and regional growth priorities, not only tenure or internal seniority. Allianz’s latest reshuffle fits that pattern pretty clearly.
