Checkr launches AI verification platform for US insurers

Checkr, an AI-powered verification platform for high-stakes decisions, has launched an insurance verification offering for auto, life and home carriers, extending its AI-powered platform into insurance underwriting and pricing.

The service gives insurers access to verified applicant information earlier in the quoting process. Checkr positions the product around a growing problem for carriers: consumers request more quotes, buy more policies online and expect faster pricing decisions.

US consumers now obtain an average of 3.5 insurance quotes before purchasing coverage, according to J.D. Power’s 2026 Insurance Shopping Study. That’s the highest level recorded by the study.

Digital purchasing has also increased. Nearly 48% of new auto insurance policies are now purchased online, compared with 36% five years earlier.

For insurers, the change means processing more prospective customers before knowing which applicants will purchase coverage. Pricing teams need to work faster, often with limited verified information available during the first quote.

Insurers traditionally choose between running detailed checks early or relying first on information supplied by applicants.

Running full verification before quoting improves pricing accuracy, but insurers still pay for checks on shoppers who never become policyholders. Waiting until later reduces those initial costs, though revised pricing after verification risks losing customers who received a different preliminary quote.

Checkr’s insurance platform moves more verified information into the initial pricing stage. Underwriters receive direct access to identity records, criminal information, public records and driving data drawn from more than 2,400 government sources.

Checkr refreshes its data daily and classifies records across more than 250 offense categories. The structure gives pricing and analytics teams more detail about applicants before carriers issue final terms.

The platform covers more than 260 mn profiles representing 96% of US adults. Checkr says its dataset includes up to 20% more driving, criminal and public records than legacy verification providers.

Its data system combines thousands of proprietary sources with government and credit information refreshed daily. More detailed offense classifications replace the simpler hit-or-no-hit results common in older verification systems.

Checkr also uses matching technology to connect applicants with the correct records. The company says this reduces manual review and improves confidence when insurers evaluate identity or background information.

The commercial model also differs from conventional per-transaction verification. Carriers pay when an applicant becomes a policyholder rather than each time they request a check.

Michele Casertano, general manager of Insurance & Trust at Checkr, said insurance companies often rely on information separated from the original data source. Checkr’s product gives carriers more direct access to updated records during underwriting.

Casertano said the platform is designed to help insurers reach informed decisions faster while giving customers greater confidence in the process.

Hippo is among the insurers using additional Checkr data during underwriting. Chief underwriting officer Ilya Shnol said Hippo’s quoting and underwriting technology shapes how the company builds its risk portfolio.

According to Shnol, Checkr supplies additional data signals earlier in the assessment process. Those records support more consistent underwriting decisions and help Hippo identify homeowners matching its insurance program.

Checkr has made the insurance offering available to carriers across the United States. The company operates an AI-powered verification platform designed for decisions involving identity, background information and professional credentials. Its technology processes fragmented records and converts them into structured verification results.
