eMaxx, a specialty, tech-enabled managing general agent (MGA) and attorney-in-fact focused on commercial property and casualty insurance, has established the eMaxx Reciprocal Insurance Exchange, a policyholder-owned reciprocal insurer domiciled in Arkansas, expanding its alternative risk platform across commercial property and casualty lines.
The Reciprocal is owned by its policyholder Subscribers and structured to operate as both an insurer and reinsurer.
It also provides reinsurance support to eCaptiv, eMaxx’s sponsored captive insurance company organised with protected cell structures as a mutual benefit corporation.
Brian McCarthy, CEO and president of eMaxx Assurance Group of Companies, said the launch formalises a model built around tighter alignment between insureds and underwriting outcomes.
He said positioning policyholders as both Subscribers and owners supports disciplined underwriting, governance accountability, and a variable cost structure designed to counter social inflation and escalating loss costs.
Participation in the eCaptiv program automatically enrols each Member as a Subscriber of the Reciprocal. While ownership rests with policyholders, day-to-day operations are handled by an independent Attorney-in-Fact.
Michael Penza, president, and Samuel Coraluzzo, chairman of the Subscribers’ Advisory Committee for the eMaxx Reciprocal Insurance Exchange, said the structure targets Members focused on long-term participation and shared responsibility.
They said the Reciprocal ties governance standards directly to accountability and loss prevention rather than premium volume.
Subscribers and Members must comply with defined safety and loss prevention requirements as a condition of participation.
The program mandates approved cloud-based dash cameras and telematics, driver behaviour monitoring technology including inward-facing cameras or mobile phone blocking, and participation in ongoing monitoring programs with required quarterly training.
Additional requirements include continuous motor vehicle record monitoring, maintenance of written progressive disciplinary policies, and consent to share telematics and safety event data through approved platforms.
Members must also participate in the Risk Management Summit, operate light-duty return-to-work programs, and provide prompt claim notifications.
eMaxx Insurance Services serves as Attorney-in-Fact for the Reciprocal Insurance Exchange and sponsors eCaptiv, an Arkansas-domiciled captive reinsurance company structured to provide protected cell reinsurance support within the broader eMaxx platform.
