Emirates adds $25,000 conflict cover to travel insurance

Emirates adds $25,000 conflict cover to travel insurance

Emirates has launched a new travel insurance policy that includes conflict-related medical cover, airline rebooking support, and hotel accommodation during travel disruption.

The Comprehensive Travel Cover policy includes trip cancellation, baggage delay, baggage loss, unlimited worldwide emergency medical expenses, and emergency evacuation. The new benefits add conflict-related medical expenses of up to $25,000.

The policy also includes a complimentary trip extension of up to 30 days. Emirates said the cover remains valid regardless of government travel advisories, giving passengers additional protection during periods of regional disruption.

Alongside the insurance policy, Emirates will provide airline-managed hotel accommodation when disruption affects journeys. That support includes cases involving airspace closures, which have become a larger concern for travellers moving through the Gulf region.

The airline will also rebook passengers on other carriers at no additional cost when Emirates flights are unavailable because of conflict-related cancellations.

That gives customers a clearer fallback option when geopolitical disruption affects routes.

The policy became available on 17 June 2026. It is backed by Travel Guard and can be purchased during booking on emirates.com or added to existing reservations through Manage Booking.

The product is initially available in selected markets across the Gulf, Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. GCC markets include Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE.

European availability includes Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

The policy is also available in Canada, South Africa, Singapore, and New Zealand. Emirates is therefore launching the cover across several of its main international travel markets.

Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airline, said the product aims to give customers more confidence when planning travel through Dubai during the summer season.

With strong demand for travel in summer, we are proud to offer our customers added confidence in planning their journeys to and through Dubai when they book with Emirates.

The announcement follows recent comments from Clark about attracting travellers back to Dubai through additional protection and support measures. Speaking at the ILA Berlin Air Show, he said Emirates would introduce incentives beyond price to restore passenger confidence.

Clark said the airline was considering extra travel protection, family support measures, and help with return journeys during airspace disruption. The new insurance policy reflects that wider strategy.

Etihad Airways has also introduced a travel protection initiative for eligible international visitors travelling to or through Abu Dhabi. The programme was launched in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.

Etihad’s offer provides up to 15 days of medical cover in the UAE for eligible travellers between July and December 2026. The cover is automatically included with eligible Etihad-operated tickets.

According to Beinsure analysts, Emirates is using insurance as a confidence tool rather than a simple add-on. Conflict cover, hotel support, and rebooking assistance address the practical risks travellers face when airspace closes or regional tensions disrupt schedules.

For airlines, travel protection is becoming part of route resilience and passenger retention strategy.
