Insurtech Soor raises pre-seed funding for insurance marketplace

  • Soor plans to expand insurer partnerships, improve its platform and user experience, and explore regional growth beyond Bahrain.

Bahrain-based insurtech Soor has raised an undisclosed pre-seed investment from Spring, a venture studio and ecosystem builder backed by London-based investment firm Salica and Bahrain’s Al Waha Fund of Funds.

The company will use the funding to support product development and growth plans.

Soor, founded by Mahmood Dhaif and Qasim Albaqali, operates a digital platform where customers compare insurance policies from different providers and buy their selected cover through one application.

The model targets a familiar pain point in insurance distribution: too much friction before purchase. Soor says its platform reduces the time and complexity involved in buying insurance, while giving customers more transparency and convenience when they compare available policies.

SOOR shows quotes from Bahrain’s leading motor insurers, including GIG (BKIC), Solidarity, SNIC, Arabia Insurance, Gulf Union, Medgulf Takaful, Liva, Damana, and New India Assurance.

The startup also gives insurers a digital distribution channel for reaching and serving customers. Soor operates under a licence from the Central Bank of Bahrain, which gives the platform a regulated footing as it works with insurance providers and consumers.

Following the investment, Soor plans to improve platform capabilities, expand partnerships with insurers and refine the user experience. The company will also focus on growth in Bahrain while assessing regional expansion opportunities.

The investment comes as digitalisation continues to reshape financial services across the Gulf. Fintech and insurtech startups are increasingly seeking to modernise traditionally fragmented processes and improve access to financial products.

For Bahrain’s emerging startup ecosystem, Soor’s backing highlights continued investor interest in technology businesses addressing inefficiencies within established financial services markets.

Spring, which is backed by Salica and Al Waha Fund of Funds, invests in technology companies targeting market inefficiencies. It provides support designed to help early-stage businesses develop and scale.

With fresh backing from Spring, Soor will now focus on expanding its digital insurance proposition and building the partnerships needed to support its next stage of growth.

Soor’s funding highlights the growing role of insurtech in modernising MENA’s financial services sector. By enabling consumers to compare and purchase insurance digitally, the Bahrain-based startup is targeting a traditionally complex and fragmented process.
