Sapiens appoints Nazir Esmail and Maggie Fox to leadership team

Sapiens, an AI-centric, SaaS-based insurance software, has appointed Nazir Esmail as Chief Autonomous Enterprise Officer and Maggie Fox as Chief Marketing Officer, expanding its senior leadership team ahead of the company’s Ignite customer summit in Nashville, Tennessee.

Esmail joined Sapiens on 21 September as the company’s first Chief Autonomous Enterprise Officer. Fox will join later in 2026.

Paul Wheeler, Sapiens CEO Designate and board member, said the appointments support the company’s current strategy and future development. He said both executives bring experience suited to Sapiens’ plans across technology and commercial growth.

Wheeler said stronger executive leadership should help Sapiens move faster on its existing priorities. He expects the appointments to support the company’s next stage as insurers increase their use of AI-based software.

Esmail’s newly created position covers the technology foundations Sapiens needs to operate safely and effectively with AI and autonomous systems.

His responsibilities bring together enterprise technology and data operations. He will also oversee systems and security capabilities supporting the wider business.

Esmail has more than 25 years of international technology and transformation experience. He joins Sapiens from SoftwareOne, where he served as Chief Information Officer and Digital Transformation Officer.

At SoftwareOne, he led the company’s global technology organisation and transformation programme. His previous work includes enterprise platforms and data, alongside AI and cybersecurity programmes.

Esmail said he joined Sapiens at a stage where the company is building the systems required for wider use of AI and autonomous technology. His remit will include connecting technology operations with data management while maintaining security standards across the business.

He said the role gives him responsibility for creating an operating foundation supporting both Sapiens and its insurance customers as the company develops its technology strategy.

Maggie Fox will take over as Chief Marketing Officer later this year. She brings international marketing experience across enterprise technology companies and start-ups.

Fox has previously served twice as a CMO and has founded a start-up. She also worked at SAP as Global SVP of Digital Marketing.

Her most recent position was SVP, Portfolio & Digital Marketing at industrial software company AVEVA. Across those roles, Fox has worked on corporate branding and commercial marketing, as well as team development.

Fox said Sapiens has reached a period where marketing will help explain the company’s direction to customers and the wider insurance market. She said Sapiens’ insurance expertise attracted her to the role. Her focus will include developing the company’s brand around its software offering and its work with insurers across international markets.

The appointments come as Sapiens prepares for its Ignite customer summit in Nashville next month. The company continues to expand its use of AI across its insurance software portfolio.

Sapiens provides AI-focused, SaaS-based software for insurers. Its platform supports property and casualty insurance as well as life business.

The company also provides technology for reinsurance and specialty insurance. Workers’ compensation insurers form another part of its customer base.

Sapiens’ software includes agentic workflows across policy administration and underwriting. Claims functions also use the platform, alongside reinsurance operations.

Other modules cover decision support and finance. Compliance functions sit within the wider product suite as insurers manage regulatory requirements through the same technology environment.

Sapiens says more than 600 insurers across over 30 countries use its software. The company works with customers through implementation projects and subsequent modernisation programmes.

Its operations span North America and Europe, with additional offices across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Sapiens also maintains operations in Israel, where the company was founded. Sapiens is headquartered in London and serves insurers across multiple business lines through its international office network.

Sapiens has launched SapiensAIP, its AI-native Autonomous Insurance Platform. The SaaS product embeds agentic AI directly into insurers’ core policy administration systems.

SapiensAIP extends the company’s existing insurance software with agentic tools across underwriting and policy administration. It also covers billing, claims and customer engagement.

The platform uses three operating layers. A persona-based experience layer manages user interaction, while an intelligence layer runs agentic workflows. A foundation layer draws on more than 40 years of Sapiens insurance knowledge.
