Vertafore launches AI Change Request Agent for MGA underwriting

Vertafore, the Denver-based insurtech, has launched Velocity Change Request Agent, an AI-powered underwriting tool designed to help managing general agents (MGAs) process policy changes, compare applications and reduce administrative work.

The agent is available within Vertafore’s Surefyre underwriting platform and forms part of the company’s Digital Underwriter strategy, which aims to introduce agentic AI across the MGA underwriting lifecycle.

  • Vertafore has introduced Velocity Change Request Agent within Surefyre, using agentic AI to automate policy change comparisons, information extraction and underwriting documentation.
  • Internal testing showed a 70% reduction in time spent reviewing and documenting policy changes and a 98% reduction in errors.
  • The new tool joins five existing Velocity AI agents for MGAs, extending automation across the underwriting lifecycle while maintaining human oversight.

The launch follows the introduction of Velocity Submission Processing Agent earlier in 2026, extending Vertafore’s automation capabilities from initial submission processing to policy changes, renewals and endorsements.

According to Vertafore, internal testing demonstrated a 70% reduction in the time required to review and document policy changes, alongside a 98% decrease in errors.

In September, Vertafore has launched its Digital Underwriter vision for managing general agents and launched two Velocity AI agents designed to reduce manual work across underwriting workflows.

Velocity Change Request Agent automates policy reviews

Policy change processing often requires underwriters to compare lengthy applications against existing coverage information, identify relevant modifications and document changes before they can be approved.

Velocity Change Request Agent uses AI to interpret incoming requests, extract relevant information and organize policy changes for processing.

The system compares renewal and endorsement applications with existing policy records, identifying differences and presenting them in plain language.

Underwriters can review the AI-generated summaries, make corrections and save the approved information directly to the application record.

The process is integrated into Surefyre rather than requiring users to move information between separate applications.

Vertafore said the approach can reduce repetitive comparison work and allow MGA underwriting teams to process more transactions while concentrating on risk evaluation and decisions requiring professional judgment.

Underwriting judgment is the scarcest resource in an MGA, and too much of it goes to comparison work technology can handle.

Emily McGinn, general manager of MGA and Wholesale at Vertafore

“The Change Request Agent shows underwriters the information they need in plain language, so they start with what changed and can spend their time on what it means for the risk,” said Emily McGinn.

McGinn said the resulting efficiency gains could increase underwriting capacity, accelerate decision-making and give underwriters more time for complex risk assessments.

Vertafore expands agentic AI across the MGA underwriting lifecycle

Change Request Agent is built on the Vertafore Velocity AI Platform and joins five other Velocity AI agents developed for MGAs.

The broader Digital Underwriter strategy covers submission intake, risk information gathering, quoting, binding and policy servicing.

Vertafore is integrating AI agents into established underwriting workflows to automate routine processing and provide relevant information directly to underwriters.

The company describes this approach as Distribution Velocity, intended to increase the volume of business MGAs can handle while improving service and retaining human control over underwriting decisions.

Together with the earlier Submission Processing Agent, the new release extends Vertafore’s use of AI beyond initial application handling to ongoing policy administration.

Underwriters remain responsible for reviewing AI-generated information and approving changes before they are recorded, keeping underwriting decisions under human supervision.
