Jet2 cancels La Palma flights from Manchester and London Stansted

Jet2 cancels La Palma flights from Manchester and London Stansted
  • Jet2 will discontinue flights and package holidays from Manchester Airport to La Palma on October 30, 2026, just six months after launching the route.
  • Planned flights from London Stansted, scheduled to begin November 6, have also been cancelled before the service starts, following a review of customer demand.
  • Affected passengers can rebook another Jet2 holiday or receive a full refund. TUI will remain an alternative operator for seasonal direct flights to La Palma.

Jet2 has announced the cancellation of its flights and package holidays to La Palma in Spain’s Canary Islands, ending services from Manchester Airport just six months after the route launched.

The airline confirmed on October 12, 2026, that its final Manchester to La Palma service is expected to operate on October 30. Plans to introduce flights from London Stansted on November 6 have also been abandoned before the first departure.

Jet2 attributed the decision to a review of its flight and holiday programme in response to customer demand.

“Following this latest review, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw flights and holidays to La Palma,” a company spokesperson said.

The Manchester route launched on April 3, offering twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays. The journey took approximately four and a half hours, with promotional fares initially starting at €57 (£48.18).

La Palma became Jet2’s fifth Canary Islands destination from Manchester, joining Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

The withdrawal leaves fewer direct travel options between the UK and La Palma, an island that has been seeking to strengthen its tourism connections with British visitors.

Jet2 offers refunds and alternative holidays

Jet2 said customers affected by the cancellations would be contacted directly or through their independent travel agents. Passengers will be offered the option of rebooking another holiday or receiving a full refund.

As a customer-focused business, we continually review our programme in response to what our customers want, and we will make adjustments where required.

The company apologized for the disruption and pointed to its wider destination network as an alternative for affected holidaymakers.

Available alternatives may include Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, mainland Spain and Madeira, depending on departure airport and availability.

Because the Manchester service continues until October 30, most passengers travelling during the October half-term holiday are not expected to be affected.

However, customers with bookings beyond that date, including those scheduled to travel from London Stansted in November, face changes to their plans.

One passenger, Sue Panton, said four people in her group had booked flights from Stansted to La Palma for November 6, along with accommodation, walking tours and restaurant reservations, before receiving notice that their flights had been cancelled.

La Palma loses direct UK flight connections

Jet2’s withdrawal is a setback for La Palma’s efforts to attract more British tourists. The island has a smaller and less established international tourism market than Tenerife and Lanzarote, making direct airline connections particularly important for visitor accessibility.

TUI, which also offers seasonal services between Manchester and La Palma, is expected to remain the only airline operating that route. However, direct Manchester flights were not available for booking beyond October at the time of reporting.

TUI continues to operate a weekly Thursday service between London Gatwick and La Palma. Jet2 has not disclosed passenger numbers, booking levels or the financial performance of its La Palma services.

The airline said the cancellations form part of its regular review of flight capacity and holiday demand, with affected customers able to select alternative destinations or request refunds.
