Social Security is simplify the sign-in experience with authentication standards

The Social Security Administration announced that users who set up an online account, such as a my Social Security account, before September 18, 2021, must switch to a Login.gov account to maintain access. Over 5 mn account holders have already made this transition.

The update aims to simplify the login process and comply with federal authentication standards while ensuring secure access to services.

my Social Security is a secure way for people to interact with us. We’re excited to streamline access to our online services through Login.gov, improving the user experience across agencies.

Users are encouraged to log in now and follow the simple steps to switch to Login.gov. After successfully linking their account, they will see a confirmation screen and gain immediate access to their my Social Security services.

People with existing Login.gov or ID.me accounts do not need to take any further steps.

my Social Security accounts are free, secure, and offer personalized tools for everyone, regardless of benefits status.

Users can replace a Social Security card, track applications, estimate benefits, or manage current benefits through their account. Visit the SSA website for more information.
