Aon expands data center insurance program to $3.5 bn capacity

Aon renews ACT insurance facility for 2026, adds facultative reinsurance

Aon has expanded its Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Program by $1 bn, lifting total capacity to $3.5 bn. The update also adds coverage for data centers beyond their first year of operation, extending protection into long-term use.

Aon said the shift reflects rising scale and capital intensity in digital infrastructure, where operators need more certainty as projects move from build phase into live environments.

The program now supports assets through both construction and steady-state operations.

Joe Peiser, chief executive of Risk Capital at Aon, said data centers now sit at the center of innovation, connectivity and economic activity. He said growing size and complexity mean resilience has to be built in early. Expanding the program allows clients to anticipate risk, protect assets and invest with more confidence.

Aon launched the Data Center Lifecycle Insurance Program in June 2025 as a multi-line solution covering construction, operational, cyber and financial risks.

The latest expansion follows increased global investment in cloud computing, AI and hyperscale infrastructure, where risk exposure keeps rising as facilities grow larger and more complex.

The programme now offers up to $3.5 bn in coverage across construction all risks, delay in start-up and operational property damage with business interruption. Cyber and technology errors and omissions coverage reaches up to $400 mn, including non-damage cyber delay risks and ransomware protection.

Third-party liability coverage extends up to $200 mn globally, with $100 mn in excess capacity in the US. The programme also includes project cargo and transport insurance up to $500 mn.

Aon’s Global Risk Consulting team provides risk engineering and cyber impact modelling alongside the insurance structure. Capacity is backed by a global panel of A-rated or higher insurers across Lloyd’s and company markets.

Through its Risk Capital model, Aon combines insurance capacity, analytics and sector expertise to support clients managing complex digital infrastructure projects and long-term investment decisions.
