Lemonade expands insurance coverage in Florida, Kentucky and Alaska

Lemonade expands insurance coverage in Florida, Kentucky and Alaska
  • Lemonade has launched car insurance in Florida, expanding its auto insurance presence to states representing nearly 50% of the U.S. market, with discounts available for electric vehicles and policy bundling.
  • Lemonade Pet Insurance is now available in Kentucky, bringing its geographic reach to 44 states and Washington, D.C., with customizable accident, illness and preventative coverage.
  • Lemonade has introduced renters insurance in Alaska starting at $5 per month, with rates approximately 30% below the national average and around 40% of claims handled instantly.

Lemonade has expanded its U.S. insurance operations with new product launches in Florida, Kentucky and Alaska, extending the availability of its car, pet and renters insurance products as the insurtech company continues its nationwide expansion.

The launches strengthen Lemonade’s presence across three insurance segments and broaden access to its digital distribution and AI-powered claims platform. The company currently serves more than 3 mn customers across the United States, United Kingdom and Europe.

Florida represents a particularly significant expansion for Lemonade’s auto insurance business. The state is one of the largest personal auto insurance markets in the country, with substantial populations of working-age consumers in major metropolitan areas.

The launch gives Florida drivers access to Lemonade Car, which offers mobile insurance services, pricing based on driving behavior and discounts for eligible electric vehicles.

“Florida is one of the largest and fastest-growing personal auto markets in the country, including millions of working-age, digital-native drivers concentrated in fast-growing metros like Miami, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville. These drivers are the type of digital-first consumers who want insurance that’s fast, mobile, and fair, based on how they drive, that gives discounts for cars like EVs, and more,” said Shai Wininger, President and Co-Founder of Lemonade.

Following the Florida launch, Lemonade Car is available in states accounting for nearly 50% of the U.S. auto insurance market.

The expanded geographic reach increases the company’s access to potential policyholders as it seeks to develop its personal auto business alongside its established insurance products.

Florida customers who already hold Lemonade renters, homeowners or pet insurance policies can also bundle their coverage with Lemonade Car. The arrangement allows existing customers to consolidate multiple insurance products with the same provider.

Lemonade has separately introduced pet insurance in Kentucky, extending the product’s availability to 44 states and Washington, D.C.

Kentucky pet owners can obtain quotes, customize coverage and submit claims directly through the Lemonade mobile application. The company says its automated claims process allows many eligible claims to be paid immediately, reducing the processing times associated with conventional insurance claims.

“Kentuckians love their pets, and they shouldn’t have to navigate an outdated claims process to take care of them,” said Yael Cohen, SVP of Pet and Life at Lemonade. “We built Lemonade Pet to be the opposite of that – you pick the coverage that fits your life, snap a photo of the vet bill, and a lot of the time you’re paid before you’ve left the parking lot.”

Lemonade Pet provides coverage for diagnostic services, medical procedures and medications associated with accidents and illnesses. Customers can adjust their annual deductible, reimbursement percentage and coverage limit according to their insurance requirements and budgets.

Optional coverage includes veterinary visit fees, dental illnesses, physical therapy, behavioral conditions and end-of-life expenses.

The company also offers preventative care packages covering routine veterinary services, including annual wellness examinations, vaccinations and blood tests. A separate package is designed specifically for puppies and kittens younger than two years old.

Kentucky customers insuring multiple pets receive an automatic multi-pet discount. Policyholders who combine pet insurance with Lemonade renters or homeowners coverage are also eligible for savings on both policies.

The Kentucky launch forms part of Lemonade’s strategy to make its complete insurance product range available nationwide while increasing opportunities for customers to purchase multiple policies through one digital platform.

In Alaska, Lemonade has expanded its renters insurance operations with policies starting at $5 per month.

The product allows renters to obtain quotes, purchase insurance, make policy changes and file claims through the company’s mobile application.

Approximately 40% of claims are handled instantly, according to Lemonade, allowing eligible customers to receive assistance more quickly following covered losses.

Based on company and industry data, Lemonade estimates that its renters insurance premiums are approximately 30% below the U.S. national average.

We built Lemonade to cut through the complexity that makes traditional insurance painful. We offer simple quotes, instant claims, and rates that don’t break the bank. Now we can deliver that to Alaska renters, too.

Dan Timist, Head of Renters Insurance at Lemonade

The company is positioning competitive pricing and simplified digital services as central features of its renters insurance offering, seeking to reduce the administrative requirements associated with purchasing and maintaining coverage.

Alaska customers may qualify for additional discounts by bundling insurance products, installing eligible home safety devices or choosing annual rather than monthly billing.

The expansion provides renters across the state with access to customizable insurance policies and digital claims services, extending Lemonade’s presence in the U.S. personal insurance market.

Across its product portfolio, Lemonade combines direct digital distribution with automated underwriting and AI-supported claims management. Its operating model is intended to reduce routine administrative work and accelerate insurance transactions, including policy issuance and claims settlement.

The company offers renters, homeowners, pet, car and life insurance through its technology-based platform.

Lemonade says nearly half of its claims are paid within seconds, reflecting the use of automated systems to assess and process eligible submissions.

The latest launches increase Lemonade’s geographic reach in three distinct insurance markets. Florida expands its addressable auto insurance market, Kentucky extends its pet insurance distribution, and Alaska adds another state to its renters insurance operations.
