Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance and MSIG Asia have created a new global role to cement broker partnerships and push data-led collaboration across markets.
Eric Schaap has been appointed Senior Vice President and Global Broker Engagement Manager, based in Singapore.
Schaap brings more than two decades of international insurance experience, spanning broker management, risk maturity modelling, claims system builds, and analytics-driven governance.
His reporting lines reflect the dual scope of the role: to Keisuke Ema, General Manager of Mitsui Sumitomo’s International Business Department in Tokyo, for global responsibilities, and to Clemens Philippi, CEO of MSIG Asia, for regional oversight.
The mandate is clear. Schaap will design a global engagement framework to unify approaches across local, regional, and international broker relationships.
He is tasked with harnessing MSIG’s scale and existing data to strengthen alignment, generate new growth, and improve outcomes for brokers and clients. A focus will be connecting practices already working in certain regions and scaling them across the group.
“Brokers are key strategic partners in our international growth journey, with global players driving about 50% of MSIG’s international business GWP,” Ema said.
By establishing this new global role, we aim to build stronger, data-driven partnerships that align our collective strengths across markets and deliver greater value to our clients and stakeholders.
