Ripe, a UK-based managing general agent (MGA) that specializes in niche insurance products for individuals and small businesses, launched a ChatGPT app for its cycling insurance brand Cycleplan, allowing users to receive real-time quotes through a conversational interface.
The move places the company among early digital MGAs using AI-driven distribution to sell specialist insurance products.
The app delivers confirmed quotes rather than indicative pricing. Users move directly from conversation to policy purchase, with a link to declarations and payment on the Cycleplan website. This reduces friction across the quote journey and shortens the path to conversion.
Ripe built the app internally using its existing technology stack. The system integrates with ChatGPT while maintaining control over underwriting inputs and pricing logic.
According to Beinsure analysts, this type of integration signals a shift in how MGAs approach digital distribution, moving closer to embedded and conversational sales models.
Ripe operates as a digital-first MGA, offering niche insurance products across cycling, marine, motorhome, photography, golf, and small business segments.
The company serves more than 430,000 policyholders across the UK, focusing on specialised risks that require tailored coverage.
Cycleplan targets cyclists seeking flexible protection for both riders and equipment. Policies adjust to individual needs, covering theft, damage, and liability exposures linked to cycling activity.
The ChatGPT app reflects changing customer behaviour. Consumers increasingly use AI tools such as ChatGPT to research and compare financial products.
Ripe’s approach places insurance directly inside that decision process rather than relying on traditional web-based journeys.
Alan Thomas said cyclists already use AI tools for planning and equipment research, and insurance should follow the same pattern. He described the app as a direct response to how customers interact with digital platforms.
The company built its platform to integrate with emerging environments quickly. He pointed to ChatGPT as one example of a scalable distribution channel that can support future expansion.
The launch highlights a broader shift in insurance distribution. MGAs are testing new ways to reach customers, using AI interfaces to simplify quoting and purchase flows while keeping underwriting and pricing within controlled systems.
