Insurtech Kin signs four-year FSU Athletics jersey patch partnership

Florida State University Athletics and homeowner insurance provider Kin have signed a multi-year partnership covering all 18 FSU varsity programs. Kin becomes the first company to place its logo on jerseys across the university’s athletic program and will serve as FSU Athletics’ preferred insurance partner.

The jersey patch will debut September 7, when Florida State football plays SMU. It will then appear across 17 additional varsity teams during the 2026-2027 season.

The agreement runs for four years and expands Kin’s marketing presence in Florida, its largest insurance market. The company has sold homeowners insurance in the state since 2017 and currently operates in 14 states.

Kin provides direct-to-consumer insurance and home finance products, focusing heavily on homeowners in catastrophe-exposed markets. The company says Floridians currently use Kin policies to insure nearly $100 bn of homes and vehicles.

Florida has remained central to Kin’s business despite years of higher property insurance costs and severe-weather losses. The insurer has continued expanding there as homeowners face higher premiums and reduced availability from some carriers.

“Kin’s Florida roots and commitment to serving people across the state make this a natural partnership for Florida State,” said Michael Alford, vice president and director of athletics at Florida State University.

Alford said Kin’s investment will provide additional resources for student-athletes while supporting Florida State’s athletic programs. He also pointed to both organizations’ long-term involvement in communities across the state.

The Kin patch will appear on uniforms for football and women’s basketball, along with men’s and women’s cross country. Women’s soccer and women’s volleyball are also included in the agreement.

Coverage extends to men’s and women’s swimming and diving, plus indoor and outdoor track and field. Baseball, beach volleyball and women’s lacrosse are part of the partnership as well.

Softball, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis complete the 18-program group. The arrangement gives Kin exposure across Florida State’s full varsity sports portfolio rather than a single team.

The partnership also connects Kin with Florida State’s insurance education programs. FSU’s Dr. William T. Hold/The Alliance’s Program in Risk Management and Insurance trains students for careers across insurance and risk management.

Florida State University develops talented people who go on to lead across Florida, including some of the future leaders of the insurance industry.

Sean Harper, co-founder and CEO of Kin

Harper said Kin started operating in Florida because homeowners were facing rising insurance costs and fewer coverage options. He added that the company continues investing in the state despite difficult property insurance conditions.

Kin’s investment extends beyond uniform branding. The agreement provides funding for FSU Athletics and creates additional connections with Florida State fans, alumni and student-athletes.

For Kin, the deal adds a statewide consumer brand platform in its largest insurance market. The company gains visibility across football and 17 other programs while tying its insurance business more closely to a university with an established risk management and insurance curriculum.

Legends Global arranged the partnership in collaboration with Florida State Athletics. The four-year agreement begins with the 2026-2027 athletic season.

Kin provides solutions to homeowners to help them save money, simplify tasks, and protect their most valuable assets. By offering direct-to-consumer digital home and auto insurance alongside home finance services, the company focuses on supporting underserved homeowners in states with high catastrophic risk.
