Insurtech Root and Carvana extend embedded car insurance partnership to 2028
  • Root and Carvana have extended their exclusive embedded insurance partnership until at least August 2028, continuing a collaboration launched in 2022.
  • Their Carvana Insurance Built with Root product has surpassed 200,000 policies sold in less than four years, offering customers a fully integrated, three-click insurance purchasing process.
  • Root’s technology uses data science and automation to deliver personalized auto insurance pricing, supported by more than 37 bn miles of analyzed driving data and over 18 mn app downloads.

Root, a technology-driven auto insurance company, has extended its exclusive embedded insurance partnership with online vehicle retailer Carvana, securing the collaboration through at least August 2028.

The agreement continues a relationship established in 2022, when the companies introduced Carvana Insurance Built with Root, an embedded insurance product that allows customers to purchase personalized auto coverage directly within Carvana’s vehicle-buying process.

The integration was designed to simplify insurance purchasing by incorporating coverage selection into the transaction rather than requiring customers to arrange a separate policy after choosing a vehicle.

In less than four years, the partnership has surpassed 200,000 policies sold, demonstrating customer adoption of insurance products distributed directly through digital automotive retail platforms.

Carvana Insurance Built with Root combines Carvana’s online purchasing experience with Root’s data science and insurance pricing technology. The companies developed what they describe as an industry-first, three-click insurance purchasing process at the point of sale, allowing customers to obtain coverage without navigating a separate, more complex application process.

The program results, paired with this renewal, demonstrate the power of giving customers exactly what they want: easy, simple insurance, something this program uniquely delivers

The extension preserves the companies’ exclusive embedded insurance arrangement for at least another two years, with the agreement running through August 2028.

For Root, the partnership provides an established distribution channel within Carvana’s digital vehicle marketplace, connecting insurance purchasing with the point at which customers acquire a car.

The arrangement also allows Carvana to offer insurance as part of its existing customer experience, using Root’s pricing technology to provide personalized coverage options.

The companies intend to continue developing their technology-enabled collaboration across automotive retail and insurance, with a focus on integrating insurance into the vehicle purchasing process.

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, Root operates through Root Insurance Company, a subsidiary of publicly traded Root, Inc.

The insurer uses data science and automation to support personalized auto insurance pricing. Its mobile application has recorded more than 18 mn downloads, while the company has analyzed more than 37 bn miles of driving data to inform its pricing capabilities.

The renewed Carvana agreement extends an established embedded insurance distribution relationship that has generated more than 200,000 policy sales since its introduction in 2022.
