Polish Financial Supervision Authority issued recommendations about MTPL insurance claim

The new recommendations of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), concerning the liquidation of motor insurance claims may have a significant contribution to drive inflation in vehicle claims covered by MTPL insurance up to 19-27% in 2023, analyst quoted by Gazeta Ubezpieczeniowa believe.

The new recommendations issued by KNF in July 2023 will replace the standard set in 2014. They might result in an increase of the compensations paid. As emphasized by analysts at Deloitte, among the factors that may determine a rise in repair costs there are:

Although it is very hard to estimate the impact of a recommendation on the average claim, as it will depend very much on insureds’ decisions in the process, insurers estimate the impact of recommendations will reach an approx. 8-10% increase in the average vehicle loss.

“The nature of the insurance business is cyclical and full adjustment of prices to increased costs will take at least several quarters. Claim inflation will undoubtedly reduce margins on TPL ppm and will burden insurers’ results in the next year,” Marcin Warszewski, leader of the insurance analyst at Deloitte Poland opinionated in the article.
