Tom Mortlock – Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst AON Pacific

Tom is Senior Analyst in the View of Risk Advisory group at Aon. He has worked for 15 years in climate science, catastrophe risk modelling and insurance, resilience, and flood and coastal risk management. During this time, he has supported corporates and government in understanding the materiality of physical climate risk to their business. He has a strong interest in climate analytics, water modelling, resilience and nature based solutions.

Tom is a Chartered Civil Engineer, and an Adjunct Fellow at the Climate Change Research Centre, UNSW, with a PhD in Environmental Science. He maintains an active research profile having published over 20 peer-reviewed papers including in Nature Climate Change, and has reviewed for other major journals such as Nature Scientific Reports and Earth Science Reviews.

Tom currently sits on the Australia Pacific Climate Partnership (APCP) Expert Panel and the Steering Committee of Australia’s Climate Measurements Standards Initiative (CMSI). He is actively involved in the insurance industry response to climate change through the Insurance Council of Australia.
